Further information:
Dennis was born in Kingston Upon Thames. In 1891 he was living in an orphanage in Middlesex. On his death he left all of his effects to a Mrs Louisa Bryant.
Dennis' battalion (the 2nd, Hampshire Regiment) was mobilised for war in March 1915 and embarked for Gallipoli from Avonmouth via Alexandria. They landed at Gallipoli in April 1915 and engaged in various actions including The Battles for Krithia and the Achi Baba heights. The numbers of casualties in the Gallipoli campaign were consistently high as disease was rife. At the time of his death, Dennis' battalion were not involved in any specific action, in fact he died not long before the troops were withdrawn. It is therefore possible that since he is recorded as being killed in action, that he was one of the many casualties of trench warfare. After the armistice, his body was moved and reburied in its current location.
