Desmond served with "A" Squadron, 1st Derbyshire Yeomanry, Royal Armoured Corps were in Algeria during the North African campaign which ended on 13th May 1943 with victory for the allies. Desmond died 3 months later on 28 August 1943 as the result of an accident (Casualty List No. 1241).
