Ernest was born on 13/05/1894 in Bedminster, Bristol and was Baptised at St Francis, Bedminster on 17/08/1894. He married Olive Knight in 1913. Ernest and Olive had one son – Leslie Ernest Payne, born 27/01/1914.
Prior to his death, Ernest had been serving on HM Hospital Ship “Glengorn Castle”. He died on 29/10/1918 (Bristol Hospital from Pneumonia).
