Further information:
On the 28th November, Edgar along with his crew were in their Sunderland III aircraft on anti-submarine patrol off the East coast of Sri Lanka. The plane took off from Koggala at 6.45 am but poor weather conditions meant that it was recalled by operations control 6 hours later. However repeated wireless transmissions remained unanswered and the aircraft failed to return to base by evening with no wireless transmission having been received since take-off. Extensive air-sea searches were carried out during subsequent days but no wreckage was found.
