Edward John Woodman was born in 1885 in Dodington. His parents were John and Charlotte Woodman of Dove Cottage in Dodington

Edward married Edith Annie and they had two daughters called Florence and Edith. The family were living at Walton, Wakefield, Edward was working as a domestic groom in 1911

Edward enlisted in Portsmouth and joined the 4th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment as a private. He died in August 1917 at the age of 32 and he was awarded the Victory and British War medals. Edward is buried at Artillery Wood Cemetery in Belgium
