Edward Frank Maggs was born in 1892 in Hambrook. His father was Frank Maggs. In 1901 he was living in the widow Elizabeth Ford’s house as a visitor. Edward left Hambrook School in July 1904 to work in a market garden

Edward joined the 7th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment as a private

Edward was killed in Mesopotamia in April 1916 at the age of 24. He is remembered on the Basra War Memorial in Iraq. Edward is also remembered on the war memorial in All Saints churchyard in Winterbourne Down and on the Whiteshill War Memorial (Winterbourne Down face) in Hambrook
