Further information:

Ted was the eldest child of 3, with a younger sister and younger brother. He was also grand-nephew of the famous cricketer WG Grace and was a keen cricketer himself. Ted was educated at Avondale Prep School in Clifton then at Wrekin College, Shropshire, from September 1929 to February 1933. Following the family tradition, Ted qualified in Medicine from Bristol University in 1939 and did his house jobs at Bristol Royal Infirmary. At University he was a good all-round sportsman and was in the Officer Training Corps. Ted was therefore commissioned into the RAMC in 1940 as soon as he was fully qualified. At first, he helped the Royal Navy to bring back wounded from Dunkirk, then he served as RMO with Surrey and Sussex Yeomanry Regiment. Initially he was posted near home, but later served in North Africa followed by Italy. He married Rosemary Garner in 1942 in Kent and at the time she was working as a clerk to the local detachment of the Home Guard. Ted and Rosemary did not have any children and Ted died in Italy after contracting Typhoid fever.
