Eric enlisted in the RAFVR at the beginning of 1940 and was appointed as a Class F Reservist. Eric was killed when his aircraft Beaufort N1151 of 22 Squadron became lost on a patrol to Terschelling, an island off the Netherlands, strategically important to the Germans. He and his crew were listed as missing in action in January. The status was changed to presumed killed in September. Eric’s brother Colin was killed in an air accident just 2 months earlier.
