Eric was the youngest of 9 children with 3 sisters and 5 brothers. His father was recorded on the 1911 census to be working as a scavenger, so as a child, Eric’s family would very likely have suffered hardship. Eric married Florence Elizabeth Marsh in 1934.

Eric signed up with the Royal Artillery in 1940. He was killed in action and died at sea, but the circumstances around his death are unknown.
