Eric attended Chipping Sodbury School from 1933 until 1937 and was married to Freda Eluira Elizabeth Cooke of Tonyrefail, Glamorgan, Wales.
His last mission was out of RAF Melbourne in Yorkshire. Eric was killed along with the 6 other crew members of his Halifax III HD211 bomber when it collided with a German fighter plane over Besancon in France. The crew were taking part in a bombing mission of the Peugeot factory in Montbellard and following the collision both planes crash landed with no survivors.
He was buried in Besancon Cemetery with his comrades and up until 2015 had the status of an unknown airman. He was commemorated on Runnymede Memorial and recorded as missing believed killed.
