Francis Edward Young was born in 1895 to parents, James and Eliza Young of New Town, Charfield.

Francis served with the 2nd/5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment as a Lance Serjeant, he died on the 2nd December 1917 aged 22 years and is remembered on the Cambrai Memorial, Louveral, France.

He died when his battalion was resting near an ammunition dump on the way to the front lines. It blew up without warning at 2.30am and he has no known grave.
