Frederick James Massey was born in 1870 (4th Quarter) in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. He married Annie Selina Kite in 1898 and they had one daughter Ethel Annie who was born on 9/04/1899. After the war, Annie married John Eddy (1922) and moved to Stokes Croft, Bristol.

Frederick served with the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 8/10/1915.

Frederick Massey is commemorated on the Christ Church Downend Memorial and the Staple Hill (Page Park) Memorial. He is also commemorated on the Staple Hill Methodist Church Memorial and the St Mary's Memorial in Fishponds.
