Further information:

Fitzroy was born in 1892 (1st Quarter) Chipping Sodbury district and died on 22/06/1916 (Tuberculosis at the Sanatorium, Shepton Mallett).

On the 1901 Census, Fitzroy lived with his parents and younger sister Sybil at Doynton. His mother died in 1909 and shortly afterwards his father died in 1911.

Fitzroy joined the Royal Engineers prior to WW1 and at the commencement of the war was attached to the 6th Division Signal Company Royal Engineers. He went overseas (France) with his unit on 8/09/1914. He was discharged from the Army (probably due to ill health).

His pension records are available online which may provide further details, but at the time of preparing these remarks, access was not available.

Originally Fitzroy was not recorded on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) records or the United Kingdom Book of Remembrance, but due to the work of dedicated volunteers his name was added in September 2014, and a CWGC headstone now marks his grave in the Holy Trinity Church Cemetery. He is commemorated on the Doynton War Memorial and on the Chew Magna War Memorial.
