Francis was the middle son of 3 brothers and his father was a heavy manual worker who dug the claypits. Francis died during the battle for Caen which was an extremely vicious battle that lasted just under two months. It ended finally on the 21st July, by which time 73% of the city was destroyed and 3000 French civilians killed.
