Francis Henry Goodman was born in 1884 in Winterbourne. His parents were Arthur and Harriet Goodman, but his father had died by 1901. His siblings were Louisa, Frederick and Mabel. He may have had more siblings that were older than him. Francis was working as a stonemason in 1901 and living with his family in Winterbourne

Francis joined the 21st Battalion of the Austalian Infantry, A.I.F. as a private. He died in October 1918 at the age of 34. He is buried in Bois Guillaume Communal Cemetery Extension (Ref: F. 7B.) in France
