Francis Herbert George Norman was born in 1899 in St George, Bristol. The son of George and Sarah Jane, he lived initially with his parents in Soundwell, Bristol. It appears that his mother died between the 1901 and 1911 census’ and his father remarried, Jenny Stephanie. The family moved to Twerton, Bath.

There is no record of Francis’ occupation prior to him enlisting. He served as a Private in Princess Charlotte of Wales’ (Royal Berkshire) Regiment, 8th Battalion (formerly Royal Warwick Regiment) until he was Killed in Action on 8 August 1918 aged just 19 years. He is remembered in the Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, France.
