Frank Henry Harcombe was born in 1896 in Winterbourne. His parents were William and Elizabeth Harcombe and they lived in Winterbourne Down. He was brother to Ethel, Florey, Kathleen, Bertha, Daisy and Gladys. His father was a coal miner (hewer) and he had been born in Winterbourne.

Frank enlisted in Pontypridd and he joined the 2nd Battalion of the Grenadier Guards as a private. He died in March 1915 at the age of 19.

Frank is buried in the Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy in France. Frank is also remembered on the memorial in All Saints churchyard in Winterbourne Down and on the Whiteshill Common Memorial (Winterbourne Down face) in Hambrook.
