Fred was the son of a bricklayer and a bricklayer himself. He was the youngest of 4 children, with 2 older brothers and an older sister. He married Daisy Ellen Kitchenham in 1920 and together they had 6 children.
Fred was killed in action at sea but the circumstances around his death are unknown.
