Fred was born in Wick, the son of a farm labourer and the youngest child of 7 children. He had two older sisters and four older brothers.
Frederick enlisted in 1916 and served in England in the Regimental Depot of the RNVR as pay staff. He was invalided out from the service and subsequently died from pulmonary tuberculosis.
