Further information:

Frederick was born at Pucklechurch, the son of a colliery engine driver and the eldest child of six with four younger sisters and a younger brother.

In October 1914 Frederick's battalion embarked for India from Southampton arriving at Bombay the following month. They moved to Basra and joined the 37th Indian Brigade and in May 1916 transferred to the 41st Indian Brigade defending the Lines of Communication. In March 1918 they transferred to the 56th Indian Brigade. Frederick died 3 months before the Armistice at one of the general hospitals that were sited at Amara during much of WW1. The cause of his death is not specified but it is possible that he was one of the many victims of infectious illnesses that afflicted the soldiers serving in Mesopotamia.
