Frederick married Irene Elsie Amy Comley around 1939. He died as a passenger on the steamship SS Aguila. The ship was travelling as part of a convoy, from Liverpool to Lisbon, carrying general cargo and passengers, when it was hit by torpedoes from U-boat 201 west-southwest of Fastnet Rock in the early hours of August 19th. The ship sunk within 90 seconds of being hit and Frederick and 147 other lives were lost including a Naval Commodore and 21 women of the WRNS.
