Frederick’s Battalion (2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment) was involved in the Battle of France after Germany's invasion of the Low Countries. It took part in the defensive screen protecting the Dunkirk evacuation and therefore remained behind in enemy territory in Belgium. Frederick was listed as missing in action on 14th June and his death recorded 3 weeks later. He was originally buried in Klemskerke Churchyard Belgium and later transferred to the Canadian War Cemetery.
