Geoffrey was born in Bristol the son of a printer and the second eldest of four children.
Geoffrey's regiment saw action in Palestine and North Africa before joining the Italian Campaign where they fought in the Battle of the Sangro at the end of 1943. Geoffrey was killed in action during fighting around the Eastern end of the Gustav line a series of fortifications built by the Germans which ran across Italy from just north of where the Garigliano River flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea in the west, through the Apennine Mountains to the mouth of the Sangro River on the Adriatic coast in the east. Geoffrey was reburied at Sangro after the war.
