He was awarded the DFM for his part in a bombing raid of Hamburg in July 1943. He managed to drop his bomb load whilst one engine was on fire and the other not working. Shot down in a Lancaster Bomber whilst on a bombing raid of Nuremburg he and the other 6 crew members were all killed.
