Geoffrey William Coles was born 1887. His parents were Wilhamina Beatrice and Hugh Thomas Coles. He was brother to James, Denys and Nicholas. His brother James was also killed in the war. His father had worked as a magistrate and bank manager, but he became church warden at Winterbourne Down. He had been born in Clifton in Bristol

Geoffrey married Ursula Margaret de Coverdale Brownson in 1915 (June quarter). In 1911 Ursula was in Bristol. She had been born in Westmoreland in Windermere in 1887. They had a son called Richard G. H. Coles who was born in 1916 (June Quarter)

Geoffrey died in December 1915 at the age of 28. No war grave certificate has been found for him. He is remembered on the war memorial in All Saints churchyard in Winterbourne Down
