George Biggs was born in about 1888 in Winterbourne. His parents were Frederick and Caroline Biggs of Winterbourne Down. He was brother to Tom, Dorothy, Beatrice and Ida. His brother Tom also died in the war. Their father was a stonecutter and he had been born in Winterbourne.
George joined the 1st/4th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment as a private. George died on 9th October 1917 at the age of 19.
George is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial (Ref: Panel 72 to 75) in Belgium. He is also remembered on the memorial in All Saints churchyard in Winterbourne Down and Whiteshill Common Memorial (Winterbourne Down face) in Hambrook.
