George Fowler was born in 1893 in Frampton Cotterell to parents, Edward and Emma Jane (nee Jones) Fowler. George was brother to Edwin, Alice and William. Their father had worked as a coal miner and he was born in Frampton Cotterell. George’s family emigrated to Australia in 1911. The family home was at Turner Street, North Wonthagge, Victoria.
George joined the Australian Army in 2/2/1916. His battalion (the 37th) travelled to England and arrived in Plymouth on 25 July 1916. They proceeded to France 22nd November 1916 and he was appointed Lance Corporal on 8th July 1917.
George died in July 1917 at the age of 24 years. He is buried in Kandahar Farm Cemetery, Belgium (Ref: II. A. 3).
George is remembered on the Frampton Cotterell Zion Church Memorial Plaque.
