George served with the 2nd/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. George's regiment took part in the Italian Campaign which was then was transferred to take part in the D-Day Landings on the 6th June. However, George died on 25th June and was buried at Bolsena in Italy, the location of a Military Hospital. The remainder of his regiment went on to fight in France and George stayed behind eventually dying from wounds sustained during earlier fighting.
