George was born in Hanham, the son of a quarryman and a middle child of five with two sisters and two brothers. In 1911 he was working as a clerk and in November 1914 he married Elizabeth May Henly, before he had enlisted. At that time the couple were living in Kingswood.
George saw active service during the war and died nearly 3 years after the Armistice, in Nordrach Upton Mendip TB sanatorium. The cause of his death was advanced tuberculosis, aggravated/caused by his war service.
