George (Ernest or Edward) Lloyd was born in about 1881 in Winterbourne Down. His parents were John and Mary Lloyd. He was brother to Francis, Charles, Isaac, Ellen, Mary, William, John, Lilly, Violet, Graham, Gilbert, Daisy, Walter and possibly Clifford Percy who also died in the war. His father was a haulier on a farm and he was born in Winterbourne Down. George was working as a stone quarryman in 1901.
George served with the 6th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment as a private. George died in November 1916 at the age of 35. He is buried in Warlencourt British Cemetery in France. He is remembered on the All Saints Churchyard War Memorial in Winterbourne Down and on the Whiteshill Common War Memorial in Hambrook.
