George Milton Hensley was born in 1890 in Hawkesbury to parents, George and Emma Hensley of the Suppy Stores, Main Street, Hawkesbury. George had 3 siblings, sisters Hilda L Hensley was born 1887 and Gladys Hensley was born 1888 and his brother Lionel Hensley was born 1895
George worked for the family business, Hensley Stores on the Plain in Hawkesbury Upton. He was captain of the village cricket team. Along with his best friend, Ivor Thompson he had enlisted in the Territorial Force in 1913. Mobilised in 1914, he served in France from 1915. He fought at the Somme in 1916. In August 1917, he was killed in an attack during the Third Battle of Ypres
George served with the 1st/5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment as a Serjeant and was Killed in Action on the 16th August 1917, he was 27 years
George Milton Hensley is remembered on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre under Hawkesbury
