George Walters was born in 1893 at Frampton Cotterell, the son of Mark and Harriet Walters of Mill House, Ryecroft Road, Frampton Cotterell (next to the old windmill). His siblings were Bessie, Elsie, Albert and Doris. His father who had been born in Westerleigh worked as a coal miner
George served with the 14th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, as Private 20122. He was killed on the 23rd March 1918 and is remembered on the Pozieres Memorial (Ref: Panel 40 and 41), France
George Walters is remembered on the Frampton Cotterell Zion Church War Memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre under Coalpit Heath
