Further information:
Henry was born in 1885 (2nd Quarter) and Baptised Staple Hill on 18 August 1885. Birth registration and baptism were both recorded as Henry Charles, but the 1891, 1901 and 1911 Census all recorded him as Harry. When enlisting in the Australian army, he used his correct name of Henry. Henry married Florence Milsom in 2nd Quarter 1911.
Henry served with D Company, 37th Battalion, Australian Infantry and was Killed in Action on 4/10/1917.
He is commemorated on the Christ Church Downend Memorial as Henry Charles and on the Staple Hill Methodist Church Memorial as Harry C (Commemorated on the Staple Hill Page Park Memorial as H C Taylor)
Harry's enlistment papers in 1916 stated he was single, which was not the case. This caused some confusion about the notification of death and pension payments as the Next of Kin was given as his mother. Later in the papers it confirms he was married to Florence, and that she remained in Australia and remarried a Mr J.Poole. The medals were sent to her new address in Sydney. Harry's father died in 1903 aged 64.
