At the time of the 1911 Census, Harold was living with his mother and 2 brothers (seven children out of 9 were surviving, the older children having left home). His fathers name has been crossed through on the Census return – reason unknown.

Harold served in the Royal Naval Division (RND) 188th Brigade Machine Gun Company. The RND was an infantry division made up of Royal Naval personnel who were not required for duties at sea. Harold was Killed in Action on 17/02/1917.
