Henry Charles Woodman was born in 1885 in Freshford in Somerset. His parents were Charles Henry and Florence Louisa Woodman and they lived at Sands Court in Chipping Sodbury. He was brother to Arthur and Fanny. Henry’s father was a coachman and had been born in Dodington. In 1911 Henry was working as a hall boy for Sir Gerald W. Codrington at The Old Hundred in Tormarton

Henry Charles Woodman enlisted in London and joined the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards as a private. He died in May 1918 at the age of 23. He is buried in Bienvillers Military Cemetery in France. He was awarded the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals

H Woodman is remembered on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre under Doddington.
