Harold Bodman was born in 1890 in Codrington. He was baptised on the 23rd February. His parents were William and Hannah Bodman (nee Iles). He had a younger sister called Elsie. In 1911 the family were living at Rangeworthy probably at Sunbeam Cottage. Harold worked as a farm labourer
Harold joined the Royal Field Artillery at Bristol on 31st December 1914 as a Gunner. He was in Basra from 7th March 1916 with the "A" Battery of the 69th Brigade of the Iraq Expeditionary Force. He was admitted to hospital on the 18th July and died from Enteritis on the 4th August 1916 at the age of 26
He is buried in Amara War Cemetery (XIV. F. 14.) in Iraq. He is commemorated on the Rangeworthy Parish Church Memorial and on the Chipping Sodbury Cottage Hospital Memorial Board (now at Yate and District Heritage Centre). He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory medals
