Harold was born and raised in Aston Birmingham, the younger of two brothers. His father was a rubber tyre maker at Dunlop and his older brother was named Arthur. Harold enlisted in the Royal Tank Corps in 1929 and later joined the Royal Artillery. He married Irene Mitchell in 1934 and together they had 2 daughters Doreen and Molly.
Harold was killed in action and died at sea. He was originally reported as missing which was changed to presumed killed in action 5 months later. The circumstances around his death are not known.
