Harold’s Regiment, the 50th Royal Tank Regiment, served as part of the 23rd Armoured Brigade in the Sicily campaign in operation Husky to regain control of Sicily, under the command of the 51st Highland Division. Between the 13th and 15th July there was heavy bombardment and hand to hand fighting in and around the village of Francofonte in Eastern Sicily. It was during this action that Harold lost his life. Casualty List No. 1213.
