Further information:
Harry was born and raised on the Isle of Wight, the son of an agricultural labourer and one of several children. He married Mary Jane Cass in 1885 and continued to live on the Isle of Wight where together they had 11 children, 7 boys and 4 girls.
In February of 1917, when Harry died, his regiment, "B" Company, 8th Battalion, Hampshires were in Palestine. The cause of his death was bronchopneumonia aggravated by active service. He may have died in Almondsbury Subsidiary Military hospital which was based in the Memorial Institute on Gloucester Road. This could be the reason for his burial in Compton Greenfield rather than on the Isle of Wight.
