Harry was the son of a School Attendance Officer and one of two brothers. Before joining the RAF in 1939, he served as a police officer in London. At the time of his death, Harry was stationed at RAF Little Rissington Gloucestershire. He was piloting a North American Harvard Mk 1 and undertaking solo aerobatics when the aircraft stalled in a turn and dived into the ground at Kingham Hill, Oxfordshire, killing him.
