Henry was the son of a poultry farmer. He joined up in 1938 and was killed in action on the home front one night during the Bristol blitz. On the night of his death 76 German bombers were reported over Avonmouth and five small bombs fell on
the Gordano Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery at Easton-in-Gordano, where Henry was on duty. The bombs hit a hut, killing Henry and injuring 5 others.
