Henry George Harmer was born in 1899 in Winterbourne. His parents were Charles and Emily Harmer. He had a sister Elizabeth and it is possible he had another younger sibling, but his father died in 1901 or 1909. His father had worked as a stonemason and he had been born in Winterbourne. Henry’s widowed mother lived in Watleys End in Winterbourne

Henry joined the 6th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry as a private. He was Killed in Action on 21 March 1918 at the age of 19. He is buried in Grand-Seraucourt British Cemetery (Ref: I. F. 10.) in France
