Herbert Fletcher was born in Yate to parents John and Mary Jane Fletcher of Rose Cottage, North Road, Yate. Herbert was the brother of George who also died in the Great War in 1919. Their father was working as a coal-miner in 1911.
Herbert Fletcher served with the 2nd/5th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. Herbert died in 1918 aged 21 years. Herbert Fletcher is remembered on the Loos Memorial in France.
