Herbert Wheeler was born in 1898 in Frampton Cotterell to parents, George and Alice Wheeler. He was brother to Annie, Gladys, Edmund, Frank, Doris and Harold. Their father worked as a stone mason and was born in Frampton Cotterell
Herbert enlisted in Bristol. He served with the 5th Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment). Herbert was Killed in Action on the 19th July 1917 at the age of 21. Hebert was awarded the British War and Victory medals
Herbert Wheeler is remembered on the Arras Memorial in France (Ref: Bay 7). St Peter’s Church War Memorial in Frampton Cotterell and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital Memorial board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre
