Jack's Regiment took part in the Normandy landings, alongside the 7th Welsh, and suffered significant losses from enemy mortar fire at Mondrainville on the 17th July, during which Jack was killed. He was initially buried at Gavrus South West of Caen and later reburied in the Military Cemetery.
