Ivor came from a large family. He was 1 of 15 siblings with an older sister and an older brother and 8 younger brothers and 4 younger sisters. Ivor’s battalion arrived in Italy in March 1944 and served in the Italian Campaign as part of the British Eighth Army. It fought in the battle of Monte Cassino, one of the worst battles of the Italian Campaign in which there were 55,000 allied casualties. The battle ended with an allied victory on 18th May. Ivor has no known grave site and was officially declared killed on 5th July 1944.
