James was born in 1884 (4th Quarter) and baptised at St Barnabas Church, Warmley, Bristol on 15/3/1885. James left home prior to 1911, and I believe he initially moved to South Wales to work in the coal mines there before moving up to Yorkshire. The address he provided on his army service papers was 36 Brampton Road, West Melton, South Yorkshire (at the time a mining village).

He enlisted at Mexborough in 1915 and served with the 10th Battalion, Yorks and Lancs Regiment, he Died of Wounds on 11/10/1917 age 32.
