Further information:
John was one of twins who were both flying officers in the RAF. John served with the 138 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. John and his twin arrived at RAF Tempsford on 15th April 1944 and both brothers were flying in separate aircraft on the night that John was killed. They had set out in Halifax Bombers from Tempsford to France in operation DICK 89 which was a Special Operations Executive Mission to drop supplies in enemy occupied France. Over the drop zone there was a mid-air collision between John’s aircraft and a USAF Liberator. Both planes crashed in Marigny-L’eglise and no-one from either crew survived.
