Further information:

John saw service in the 6th Maritime Regiment during the war. He was taken prisoner of war and reported missing on 30th May 1942. At one stage his army records show him erroneously as killed in action on 11th April 1942, but on 1st November 1945 he was reported as no longer a POW. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission understandably have no record of him as he died naturally in North Yorkshire at the age of 85.
