Further information:

John was born in Winterbourne, the son of a farmer and the eldest of four brothers. His mother died in 1906 when John was 10 years old and his father remarried three years later.

John was listed as a member of the Volunteer Training Corps (VTC) in the Frenchay Church Magazine in December 1915. He was wounded in October of 1918, a month before the Armistice and was awarded a wound stripe. John was discharged from the army four months later in February 1919 with an unspecified disability, very likely the result of his wounding. He died two years later at the Ministry of Pensions War Hospital in Bath.

Note – he is not included on CWGC website.
